The lighter colored petroglyphs are much newer than the darker ones at the upper right. As petroglyphs age, they are darkened by new layers of desert varnish.
Once you pass the security check, the drive is 45 miles to the petroglyph site, and cameras and binoculars can not be used until arrival.
