Frances Slaven Williamson helped organize the suffragist movement in Nevada after four of her children died of a mysterious illness in 1876 and 1877.  When another son died in 1891 her husband, John, committed suicide.  She then joined suffragist organizations and brought Susan B. Anthony to Nevada to speak to them.  She moved to Reno and published a suffragist newspaper in 1897 and 1898.  After moving to California her last child, a daughter, died in 1900 and she passed away in 1919 just before the suffrage amendment was added to the Bill of Rights.
